Eye Foreign Body Removal



A piece of metal shot off from a grinder landed in this patient’s eye two days prior to his arrival in the emergency department. We use a very basic tool, a needle, to scrape the foreign body from the eye. This simple approach is often successful. However, incomplete removal of the associated rust ring sometimes occurs and in this case deeper buried fragments remained and were subsequently removed by the ophthalmologist using an ophthalmic burr.
