This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko H200/6 Steel Track Sliding Door Kit.
The H200 is a steel kit and it is available in a 6ft length and an 8ft length.
The 8ft track weighs over 4-1/2LBS (item in video).
Dimensionally, 1-5/16″ wide and an overall height of about an 1-1/8″.
Pemko’s material comes from Henderson, a company out of England that they bought and now they’re are incorporating their sliding door line.
There is a galvanized track (spangled face to it).
The first piece of hardware that I’d like to go over are the “snubbers” or the what Pemko calls the stop (comes with two).
These stops get slid into the track at the time of installation, before the track goes in you have to slide these in first (birds mouth first at each end of the track).
Below this video is a link to the instructions and it shows exactly how these are installed (step 8).
You get the stop to stay in place by flushing it off to the end and tightening the hex head bolt (do not over tighten).
There is a stop integrated right into the birds mouth opening of the piece.
When the wheel comes into contact with the stop, it will slightly hold and compress against the rubberized piece.
They call this a retaining stop.
The next part of the assembly includes the brackets that you hang onto the doors (two).
You’ll also receive brass color screws that hold them onto the backs of your doors.
This is for 1-3/8″/1-3/4″ doors.
These get mounted to the top of the door as shown in step 3.
Put both of them on in the same orientation.
There is a dimension of 5-1/2″ per the instructions (follow that guideline).
Some people want to hang very heavy doors and so they will ask for a 3rd hanger, but that will not work.
Inevitably there is binding in the door if you try to add one additional hanger, it works in theory but not in practice.
Moving on from there, we are left with two (the business end of this kit) trolleys or the actual hangers.
This will be comprised of the two hangers themselves (they have very dense nylon wheels and they are rated for 200LBS per pair) this system is going to hang a typical 3070 solid core 1-3/4″ oak door.
So, when you’re installing the trolley, per the instructions the flat side is up.
Two nuts come with the assembly, one that has an integrated washer and one that does not.
Thread the one with the washer on the bolt first, then after that take the typical nut and slide it into the slot on the trolley, try not to let it fall out.
Take your bolt assembly that we created and slide it up through the top and get it started by threading it.
You’ll need to have the hangars in the track before it goes up.
The make sure the retaining stop and hangers meet together.
Once you get all all of the assembly hanging, what you’ll do is lift the door up and make the door hang once you connect the head of the bolt through the bracket.
A wrench is included so you can tighten everything down, bolt to the bracket, make sure that is tight.
You can also loosen the the nut and then tighten the bolt in order to draw the door up higher or lower, so the door is level and plum.
The very last component of the system is just the nylon guide.
The instructions show in step 2 a mortise in the bottom of the door for the 102N nylon guide.
These work very well, provided that your door is not excessively warped.
Four screws are included to secure it down to the top of the floor.
There are some optional pieces of hardware that can be used.
The 281 face brackets, if you’re looking to surface mount the track (screws are not included to attach the track to the header).
You can change the style of the bottom guide with the 94X part.
You can also buy a u-channel track that gets mortised into the bottom of the door (surface mount version as well), but those pieces are far less common.
At the bottom of the instructions packet there is information on how you have to go about creating your rough opening.
These tracks can be cut down to any length that you need, but if you need them longer than 8ft you’d be looking at an aluminum version.
